Landfill diversion

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Waste diversion or landfill diversion is the process of diverting waste from landfill and is typically measured by weight.

Landfill diversion can occur through recycling, or biological treatment such as anaerobic digestion or composting or also through thermal treatment.

European waste legislation focuses upon the diversion of biodegradable waste from landfill, due to its potential to add to the effects of climate change.
