[edit] Lamar from the Inside

Lamar University is thriving in the new century.

We have more than 5,000 full-time students and over 9,000 students at the Beaumont Campus.

One of the really fun features of Lamar University is a large population of graduate students from India. These students are almost uniformly excellent and a real joy to work with.

These students are mostly in the College of Engineering, but some in Business.

I am not sure how Lamar came to be so popular with Indian graduate students, but there are 2 factors to consider.

Climate: The climate of southeast Texas is similar to that of most of India, although the winters are a little colder.

Cost: Lamar costs less than compareable Universities in Texas and elsewhere, but delivers good value for the money. Also, the cost of living in Beaumont, Texas is less than other comparable communities in the USA.
