Lamella

Lamella is a term for a plate-like structure, appearing in multiples, that occurs in various situations, such as biology or materials sciences. It may mean:
- Lamella (zoology), a gill-shaped structure found within the respiratory organs or bone or nacre of an animal. Also within the bills of water-feeding birds.
- Lamella (mycology), a "gills" or leaf-shaped hymenophore structure beneath the pileus of an agaric.
- Lamella (materials), a layered plate-like structure within geological, biological, or synthetic materials, for example mica and graphite.
- Lamella (cell biology), a cellular structure found either in chloroplasts or between plant cell walls.
- Lamella, in anatomy, is a portion of compact bone, used in anchoring.
