Lambiek

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lambiek is a comic book store and art gallery in Amsterdam. Founded in 1968 by Kees Kousemaker, it is the oldest comic book shop in Europe and one of the most famous in the world.[citation needed] It also hosts exhibitions of art by creators like Robert Crumb, Daniel Clowes, Erik Kriek, André Franquin, Tanino Liberatore and Chris Ware. Their website features online exhibitions of art, an extensive history of Dutch comics, and their Comiclopedia, which has entries on thousands of creators from all over the world.

The name Lambiek orginated as a misspelling of the name of the character Lambik, from the popular Suske & Wiske comic book series created by Belgian artist Willy Vandersteen.
