From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lambda Iota Society was founded on April 21, 1836 at the University of Vermont. The origins were based on a secret literary society. There were thirteen original members whom met regularly to share the written, and spoken, word. Since its founding, Lambda Iota has grown rich in culture and history. Lambda Iota is not only the oldest fraternity in the state of Vermont, but also the sixth oldest fraternity in the nation. Members include statesmen, academics, and other successful businessmen. The place that members have called home since the completion of the structure in 1913 is located at 440 Pearl Street Burlington, VT. Members of this esteemed brotherhood are commonly known as "Owls" after their mascot. The Owls are an ever-changing group, with members ranging in age from their mid-nineties to eighteen. There is a tight bond between Owls which has existed since the founding and will exist forever.

[edit] The Minervan Education Foundation

Since the late 1990's a group of older wise owls have been working feverishly to put together a foundation to assist current owls of especially wise stature with financial assistance for their studies. Since its creation, the foundation has raised thousands of dollars through donations and other charitable ventures.
