Lallan Prasad Singh was governor of Assam (1973-80), Manipur (1973-80, 1982-83),Meghalaya (1973-80), Nagaland (1973-81), and Tripura (1973-80) .

He died in 1998. He was awarded Padma Vibhushan award in 1999 after his death.

He was born in Bihar, India, in the early 1900s and passed away in New Delhi on October 17th, 1998. He served a long and distinguished career in the Indian Administrative Service (Indian Civil Service in his time.) He held several posts including Union Home Secretary, Governor of the five North Eastern States and Indian Ambassador to Nepal.

Apart from a very distinguished bureaucratic career, Singh also authored two books: Italic textPortrait of Lal Bahadur Shastri: the Quintessential Gandhiian and Italic textElectoral Reform in India.

He was married to Manorama Singh (nee Mehta) and had four children - Vineeta, Nandini, Vijay and Priyadarshini.
