A rare kind of liver transplantation took place in Lakeshore Hospital. Living donor liver transplantation is highly challenging and technically complex surgical procedure. It is a procedure in which a living person donates a portion of his or her liver to a recipient.

Sreejith, 7-year-old son of Mr. E.R. Sabu and Mrs. Maya from Komabathukadavu, Mala, came back to normal life after living related liver transplantation done on 5th December 2005. 30-year-old mother Mrs. Maya gave portion of her liver to her son.

Cadaver transplantation (liver transplanted from a person who is brain dead but with beating heart) is more commonly done in India. Live donor liver transplantation rarely done in selected centers in India. Sreejith came to Lakeshore Hospital with end stage liver disease due to cirrhosis. Liver transplantation is the last resort in people with end stage liver disease
