Lakeland High School is a secondary school located in White Lake, MI. The current principal is Robert Behnke, and the assistant principals are Kristen McMurren and Susan Gallagher. The Student Activities Director is Scott Rolando. Lakeland opened in 1976, and is in the Huron Valley School District. Most of the incoming students come from two of the Huron Valley middle schools, White Lake Middle School and Oak Valley Middle School. The school currently has 1,600 students.

The school's colors are blue and white, and the sports teams at Lakeland are called the "Eagles". The school has a historic rivalry with the only other high school in the Huron Valley School District, Milford High School.

Lakeland is home to 28 varsity sports and the Lakeland Athletic Department is currently headed by Mr. Greg Michaels. His is the first full time athletic director dedicated to Lakeland in the school's history. Lakeland has won 5 State Titles since opening in 1976. These include 3 in Cross Country, 1 in Gymnastics, and 1 in Girl's Bowling. Lakeland is a member of the Michigan High School Athletic Association.

Placed 4th in the senior division at the state competition. Team members were Daniel Kessler, Anthony Lazar, Sherry Kevwitch, and Bill Lloyd.

Teams placed 1st and 2nd in the Senior Division and 2nd in the Middle Division. The State champion team comprised of Daniel Kessler, Christa Dominick, Brian Albertson, and Sarah Richter. Competed in the International competition for Future Problem Solving Program, taking 23rd (Senior Division Team) and 50th (Middle Division Team). Senior Division Team placed 3rd in Presentation of Action Plan event.

Placed 2nd in senior division at state competition. Did not send teams to International competition.

Teams placed 2nd-5th in the Senior Division and 2nd-3rd in the Middle Division. Sent team (team members: Joshua Ritter, Matthew Mortellaro, Eric Anderson, Clancy Cavanagh) to International competition, placing 6th.

[edit] The Marching Eagles

The Lakeland High Marching Band has been around for many years. In 1996, it was crowned as the MCBA Flight II champions. In 2005, with their show entitled "Superstitions" featuring music from Scott Boerma and Stevie Wonder, the band finished 7th in the state. It has also come to be known for it's excellence both in music and in marching. This year's 06-07 show is entitled "Pure Imagination" and features songs such as "Pure Imagination" from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and "Distorted" from Cirque Du Soleil. They are under the direction of Mr. Bob Green. After marching season there are Winter Guard and Drumline clubs that continue the drum section and color guard of the marching eagles.

In 2006, the International Academy West came to Lakeland High School. The Class of 2010 was the first to be able to enroll in the International Academy. Located in the basement complex of Lakeland, it is closed off from the regular Lakeland students for the majority of the day. Some of the faculty of the International Academy teach Lakeland classes due to the block scheduling format employed by International Academy. International Academy teachers are projected to be able to teach solely International Academy students by the 2007-2008 school year.

The MEAP scores for the 2006 school year [1] have shown an average of 23.5% below the Michigan state average.

The recorded percentages of students who passed the exam by subject for 2006 are: Reading 7%, Science 6%, Writing 5%, Math 5%
