The Lakehead University Student Union (LUSU) represents all students at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. They provide services such as representation on various University bodies, a used bookstore, student newspaper, fax service, financial assistance, food bank, and so forth. LUSU is also Local 32 of the Canadian Federation of Students.

Board of Directors

The Lakehead University Student Union Board of Directors consists of twenty-three students elected by their fellow students. The Board of Directors is the highest governing body of the student union, shall be empowered to set all financial, political and general policy for the student union. The Board of Directors and the executive manage the day-to-day operations of the corporation.

Services

LUSU operates three student businesses on campus, including The Outpost (a restaurant/ Pub), The Study (a pool hall and coffee shop), Used Book Store (a used bookstore for textbooks). They also operate a number of non-business operations, such as LU Radio (a student radio station), The Hangar (an athletics building), GIC (Gender Issues Center), Food Bank (food bank for students in need), and many other centers and services. It also administers a number of scholarships and bursaries, travel grants, as well as providing funding for the student newspaper, the Argus.

The Lakehead University Student Union is a democratic, non-profit, service oriented corporation. It is committed to providing an environment wherein its member, the students of Lakehead University, can pursue academic excellence as well as personal and social growth, free from all forms of discrimination and harassment.

We are committed to university accessible post-secondary education, and reject all impediments to post-secondary education including, but not limited to, financial constraints and discrimination or any kind.

We are further committed to democratic principles at all levels of government including, but not limited to, student, administrative and academic bodies of the university. Furthermore, it is our objective to enhance student participation in all aspects of government in the university community.

In our quest we shall strive for the highest quality post secondary education available. We further support organizations, on and off campus, which promote the aforementioned principles. It is further understood that said principles apply to all Lakehead University Student Union clubs and organizations, and their practices.
