Lake Zarivar

Lake Zarivar or Zrewar (Kurdish: Zirêwar, Persian: زریوار: Zarivar) is a lake in Western Iran.
The lake is situated in the Kurdistan Province and has a length of 5 km and a maximum width of 1.6 km and lies west of Marivan. The lake's water is sparkingly fresh and has a maximum depth of 50 m.
Zarivar lake is a major touristic attraction in the region. There is a great deal of folklore about the origins of this lake amongst the Kurdish people of the area.
In Persian mythology it is said that the ancient residents of the area believed that there was a city named Zrivar that was drowned due to a disaster from Ahura Mazda (Zoroastrian God of the Good).[citation needed]
