Lake People Park
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lake People Park (Xacua'bs) <χatsuaʔ͡tbʃ> is a 0.5 acre park located at 3070 S. Bradford Street in the Columbia City neighborhood of Seattle, Washington, just south of the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way S. and Rainier Avenue S. In 2003, the land was donated to the city by Monte Powell, a developer who was responsible for much of the newer construction in the neighborhood. He was moved to make the donation after attending a presentation on community-established parks. Neighbors of the park cleared the land and raised sufficient funds for landscaping and interpretive signage before the park was turned over to the city.
"Lake People" (Xacua'bs, pronounced hah-tschu-ABSH) was the name which the local Duwamish tribe historically used to refer to themselves.
