Lake Panasoffkee is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sumter County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,413 at the 2000 census.

Lake Panasoffkee is located at (28.790426, -82.129900)GR1.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 10.5 km² (4.1 mi²). 10.4 km² (4.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.25% is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 3,413 people, 1,644 households, and 1,045 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 327.0/km² (846.6/mi²). There were 2,348 housing units at an average density of 225.0/km² (582.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.01% White, 0.64% African American, 0.73% Native American, 0.47% Asian, 0.15% from other races, and 1.00% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.91% of the population.
There were 1,644 households out of which 16.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.7% were married couples living together, 7.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.4% were non-families. 30.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.08 and the average family size was 2.52.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 15.4% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 20.1% from 25 to 44, 25.5% from 45 to 64, and 33.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 53 years. For every 100 females there were 94.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.0 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $25,930, and the median income for a family was $31,897. Males had a median income of $26,483 versus $17,985 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $18,149. About 8.1% of families and 12.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.6% of those under age 18 and 8.8% of those age 65 or over.

One famous event involving Lake Panasoffkee was actually an unsolved crime. On February 19, 1971 the badly decomposed body of a young woman was found by two hitchhikers crossing the Panasoffkee Bridge on Interstate 75. The woman had been strangled with a man's size 36" belt which was still wrapped around her throat. She had been dead for approximately 3 weeks. Today, she is still unindentified and known only as "Little Miss Panasoffkee".
