Lake Paiku is located on the Tibetan Plateau, “The Roof of the World”, at 4591 meters (15070 feet) ( 28°55′N, 85°35′E). Lake Paiku is 27 km (17 miles) long and 6 km (4 miles) wide at its narrowest point. Surrounded by rugged mountains on three sides that reach altitudes in excess of 5725 meters (19000 feet), numerous small streams drain into the lake. Streams fed by glaciers cascade to the valley floor south of Lake Paiku, but only a few streams actually reach the lake. Lake Paiku has no stream outlet.
