Lake Margaret Tram

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lake Margaret Tram was located on the western side of Mount Sedgwick in the West Coast Range on the West Coast of Tasmania. The line was a 2 ft (610 mm) gauge narrow gauge tramway.

The tramway was constructed in 1912 to prepare for the construction of the Lake Margaret Power Station. It ran from the Lake Margaret townsite to the Queenstown-Zeehan road. It remained the only connection to the Lake Margaret (Tasmania) locality for a considerable part of the twentieth century, it was closed in 1966.

It utilised rail-motors, usually converted road vehicles in later years of operation

It was not until the late twentieth century, after the tramline was removed that the formation was opened and public access was allowed.
