[edit] Biography

Early career

Lahmeik Stacey was born in Queens, New York in the town of Fresh Meadows and raised by his parents Jorge and Kita Ocasio. Lahmeik's introduction into the world of entertainment began quite early in his childhood. Displaying a keen interest in music, Lahmeik's parents recognized his talent for it and enrolled him in a music program to play the violin when he was 8 years old. It was at this point in time that Lahmeik realized he had a passion for music, but not playing it--he wanted to sing. ("Music, especially singing, has always been a passion of mine--it's something that I eat, breathe, and sleep totally") In June 1999, Sony record label signed Lahmeik to record two albums. His debut album, Sunrise did not reach the company's expectations commercially, and after 6 months of trying to make hits of the album, Lahmeik and Sony broke their ties with each other. Devastated, Lahmeik voiced to his parents that he wanted to abandon all committments with music. His parents, however still saw potential in him. In May 2000, Lahmeik signed a contract with Sony BMG International and re-recorded his debut album, "Sunrise" in Spanish, and entitled it "Madrugada." His sophmore album received higher acclaim than his first, especially within the Philippines but still not much to impress Sony BMG, selling a mere 12,000 copies worldwide. Unwilling to further advertise the album, Lahmeik broke his ties with the recording label.

[edit] New Century: New Success

In July 2000, Lahmeik was contacted by VIVA Records, a Philippine record label. Hesitant to take the offer, Lahmeik finally convinced himself to give music one last shot. Later that year, Lahmeik released Madrugada Re-Loaded, a re-release of his former album, this time, featuring three Tagalog songs entitled, "Puso", "Mabuhay", and "Joke Lang". This new international version of Lahmeik's original debut album,Sunrise did exceptionally well, selling nearly 750,000 copies, and established a name for him in the Pacific.

[edit] Continual Recognition

Shortly after the long-awaited success of his album, Parlatone Hispano-Filipino Inc. took an interest in Lahmeik and requested him to record a song for a film to be released later that year. After 4 days of writing, Lahmeik provided the company with a demo of the song. Parlatone, however, didn't find the song suitable for the movie and rejected it. ("That song [Kundiman Ng Puso] was a good song to me. I am not fluent in Tagalog, and not to blow my own whistle, but I know good music when I hear it.) Although the company chose not to incorporate Lahmeik's song into their movie, they did, however, include Lahmeik himself. Making short cameo appearances in the movie, Bakit Pa? was Lahmeik's first appearance on the big screen, and despite his minor role, he received good ratings for his performance.

[edit] New Goals

After participating in the film Bakit Pa?, Lahmeik chose to take a hiatus from music and pursue an acting career. Having already established himself as an actor to some degree, Lahmeik began working on his next role in the movie Wala, while appearing frequently on Pinoy Central TV for live performances and news interviews. ("My Tagalog was a bit rusty, and it still is, but the Filipino community has embraced me with warm, and welcoming arms. They truly make me feel at home.") The success of Wala allowed Lahmeik to become recognized as an actor to great extremes and in 2003, he won the FAMAS award for 'Best Child Actor.' Immediately after completion of Wala, Lahmeik began preparing for his most recent role to date in the film, Kamusta Ka?, which, however, is yet to be released.

[edit] 2005-Present Era

After completion of his latest role, Lahmeik chose to leave the limelight and take a hiatus from both music and acting in order to continue life as a "normal teenager." (I live to perform; it's what makes me feel most alive, but I am long overdue for a vacation.") He currently lives in Texas with his parents and great-grandmother and is possibly attending college at New York University. As far as when he will release another album or appear in another film, that is still up for discussion.
