Lagunitas Brewing Company is an American brewer, operating a microbrewery in Petaluma, California. They are known for beers with higher than average alcohol content and irreverent stories on their packaging.[1] The brewery was founded in 1994 by Tony Magee in Lagunitas, California and moved to nearby Petaluma when they outgrew their original facility.[2]
In 2005 the brewery's license was suspended for 20 days when the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control witnessed marijuana consumption at one of the brewery's parties. The brewery chose to commemorate this event by producing a special release of "Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale".[3] Its label includes a libertarian diatribe satirizing the authorities and drug prohibition.
