The Laestrygonians (or Laestrygones, Laistrygones, Laistrygonians, Lestrygonians) were a mythological tribe of gigantic cannibals. Odysseus went to the land of the Laestrygonians and sent three of his men there, where they saw a girl by a spring, who was a daughter of a Laestrgonian. She directed the men to her father's home where he ate one of Odysseus' men. Only the men that stayed on Odysseus' ship are able to escape alive.
