Lady Elizabeth Cavendish

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lady Elizabeth Georgina Alice Cavendish CVO (b. 24 April 1926) was a childhood friend of Queen Elizabeth II and lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret from the late-1940s until the latter's death in 2002 .

Lady Elizabeth was the daughter of Edward Cavendish, Marquess of Hartington (later 10th Duke of Devonshire) and his wife, Mary née Gascoyne-Cecil. It is believed she introduced Princess Margaret to Anthony Armstrong-Jones in 1951 and although she did not marry herself, Lady Elizabeth did form a close relationship with the writer and future Poet Laureate, John Betjeman that same year and was called by Betjeman's daughter, Candida, her father's 'beloved second wife'.
