[edit] Plot Summary
The house is being fumigated, and Dorothy, Rose and Sophia are irritated-but their bad moods disappear when Blanche returns home with exciting news. She has won tickets to both the premiere AND exclusive after-party of Burt Reynolds's new movie! The girls are thrilled, but Blanche adds a catch-there are only three tickets in the prize package. Sophia is elected to be the one not to go, and she is furious. To cheer her and the other girls up, Blanche suggests that the girls make a weekend vacation to Miami Beach to prepare for the party. Blanche finds a great hotel with a low price, and the girls' pre-party excitement mounts, along with Sophia's tricks to earn a ticket. On the night of the premiere, ever-available Blanche insists that she, Rose and Dorothy stop in the hotel's bar for a drink. While in the bar, men approach them-but when the girls refuse their advances, they claim that there are plenty of other "girls who'll take our money." The truth is revealed-the hotel is a front for a prostitution ring! At that moment, the hotel is raided, and everyone is thrown in jail, including the girls. While in the slammer, Rose befriends a young prostitute who lived in St. Gustav, the sister city to St. Olaf. Dorothy defends Blanche from a dangerous woman by claiming she did time in Attica, an all-male prison. Soon, Sophia arrives with the bail money to get the girls out. But she has an ultimatum-one girl must give up her ticket to the big premiere! No one is willing, so Sophia snatches the tickets and runs off laughing. The next morning, she bails the girls out, and tells them many stories of the Hollywood stars that she met last night. The prostitute from the previous night appears at the door to thank Rose. She has decided to try and start over in St. Gustav. Once she leaves, Sophia continues to tell more stories, leading Dorothy to snap at her. But all of the girls eat crow when Burt himself comes to the door to take Sophia to lunch!
[edit] Trivia
- In this episode Betty White references Match Game. When she reads the list of actors at the party, she reads Charles Nelson Reilly, in which he and she were semi-regulars during the 1970s, 1980s as well as the 1990s version.
