Lacroma
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lacroma or Lokrum is a small island in the Adriatic Sea, near Dubrovnik, Croatia.
Lacroma is remarkable for the beauty of its subtropical vegetation. It was a favorite resort of Archduke Maximilian, afterwards emperor of Mexico (1832–1867), who restored the chateau and park; and of Rudolf, Crown Prince of Austria (1858–1889). It contains an 11th-century Benedictine monastery, and the remains of a church, said by a very doubtful local tradition to have been founded by Richard I of England (1157–1199).
Lokrum is also the highlight of Croatia's Dalmatian coast and situated ten minutes by boat from the red-roofed town of Dubrovnik. Lokrum is dually honored as one of Croatia's national parks, and home to one of the country's premier nudist beaches.
