Lac des Deux Montagnes

The Lac des Deux Montagnes (English: Lake of Two Mountains) is part of the delta widening of the Ottawa River in Quebec, Canada, where it feeds into the Saint Lawrence River, around the many islands of the Hochelaga Archipelago through this lake to the northeast, or neighbouring Lake Saint-Louis, which takes the St-Lawrence south of the Island of Montreal.
The Lake of Two Mountains has two outflows: Rivière des Mille Îles to the north, and the Rivière des Prairies to the south, forming the island of Île Jésus (the city of Laval) in between, before the Rivière des Mille Îles, joins the Rivière des Prairies which in turn joins the Saint Lawrence. The present city of Deux-Montagnes is located on the north shore of the lake where it flows into the Rivière des Mille Îles.
[edit] Origin of the name
The lake was first named Lac des Médicis in 1612 by Samuel de Champlain, then renamed Lac des Soissons about 1632, and end up bearing its current name around the year 1684. The name refers to the two highest peaks of Mont Oka that face the lake on its northern shore, Calvaire Mountain and the Saint-Joseph-du-Lac Hill.
