Labhras O Murchú

Labhras O Murchú is Director-General of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, an organisation which exists to promote Irish traditional music and culture. He is also a Fianna Fáil Senator. O Murchú does not play one musical instrument.

Born in Tipperary,[1] O Murchú was an unsuccessful candidate in the 1993 elections for the 20th Seanad, standing on the Cultural and Educational Panel. In the 1996, the Lord Mayor of Dublin Seán Dublin Bay Rockall Loftus awarded him the Dublin City Lord Mayors Award, in recognition of his many achievements in cultural and social work.[1]

He stood again for election to Seanad Éireann in 1997, and was elected to the 21st Seanad. He was re-elected in 2002 to the 22nd Seanad, again by the Cultural and Educational Panel.
