[edit] what this article is missing

there really should be more about the academics. a greater amount on what la salle teaches, school mission, how hard it is to get into the school, and where students go to college. Dirk Pitt 17:49, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] archdiocese

though catholic la salle is independent from the archdiocese so i removed the link for the philadelphia archdiocese

[edit] Human Rights Violation?

From what I've heard, this is a freedom-of-speech fight. Most Western countries allow freedom of speech, so stop it please. Everybody has their right, even though Wikipedia is NPOV. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Auroranorth (talkcontribs) 05:37, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

  1. thats not entirely true, especially at a private school, where the whole issue came into question. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.42.22.34 (talk • contribs) 01:26, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Question for Admins

In extension of the collaboration of the week, how would we go about detailing the history of the article on Wikipedia, in regards to the response from the administration. It is certainly quite notable, and it really does set a precedent for how to handle the situation

[edit] You Can't Be The Story

Reporters can not be the story. What went on here is the same as politicians changing their entry or the entry of their opponents, or any two opposing factions yelling at each other from across a table. An encyclopedia entry on iraq for example should be written neither by saddam hussein nor george bush. leave it to the UN, or wikipedians, as the case may be.

If we chronicled every uproar at every high school there would be 10 times as many wikipedia articles. should we have made an entry for when la salle banned smoking on campus too? should the harvard university entry log every protest ever made on their campus? should we let Al Gore write the entry for the 2000 Pres. Election...uh...nope. thats what the media is for not the encyclopedia of wikipedia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 140.247.188.180 (talk • contribs).

Would it help if both involved parties contributed? And who better to know what is going on than someone who is present? Jfingers88 12:49, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
well i certainly agree with you here, but this becomes interesting because it is the first unique incident dealing with a school and a wikipedia entry in terms of the discipline context. In that facet, it is truely landmark and somewhat remarkable. If you were not paying attention to the whole debacle while it was unfolding I could understand how you missed out. Furthermore, the whole issue was put in the collaboration of the week some weeks back, which indicates that this is at least somewhat landmark 68.38.33.223 07:37, 19 August 2006 (UTC) /Fish114
I would agree with the argument that "you can't be the story" until such time as reliable outside sources start picking it up. For example, if the major Philadelphia newspaper(s) wrote (or write) an article about it, then that potentially becomes suitable fodder for the article. Otherwise, you risk violating not only journalistic principles, but also Wikipedia policies such as no original research. Even then, of course, there would be need to consider the guideline that says Wikipedia should not reference itself in articles; however, there are precedents for exceptions, such as in the articles about The Colbert Report and Colbert's encouraging WP vandalism in the name of "wikiality."
