La Ville d'Arcangel
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
La Ville d'Arcangel was a 600-ton frigate chartered by the Spanish government to carry Acadian exiles from France to Louisiana, making it the sixth ship to do so. On August 12, 1785, it left St. Malo for Louisiana. The ship ran aground when it reached Balize, an outpost at the mouth of the Mississippi River, on November 4. The ship arrived in New Orleans on December 3, 1785 after 113 days at sea. When it landed the ship had 60 Acadian familes aboard for a total of 299 people. During the voyage there were 15 deaths and 2 desertions. There were also 7 marriages, 11 adult additions, and 2 births.
The other six vessels associated with the transport of Acadians to Louisiana are Le Bon Papa, La Bergere, Le Beaumont, Le Saint Remi, L' Amitie, and La Caroline.
