[edit] Beginings

La Vela Puerca is an Uruguayan rock/ska band formed in Montevideo, Uruguay on December 1995. Its founders and current members are Sebastián Teysera (lead vocals, frontman and main songwriter), Nicolás Lieutier (bass guitar) and Santiago Butler (guitar). The band's first appearance under the name La Vela Puerca was in a Montevidean street party on December 24, 1995. By then, several new members had already joined in.

In 1996, frontman Sebastián Teysera presented a demo tape to a band contest. The rest of the band did not become aware of this until they found out they were one of the twenty finalists. A month later, they received a phone call saying they had won, and with this they were given 80 hours of free recording sessions which would be vital for their debut album.

[edit] Recent History

To this day, the band has released three albums plus a re-release of the first: Deskarado (1997), La Vela Puerca (1999, Deskarado re-release), De Bichos y Flores (2001) and A Contraluz (2004).

Their fourth studio album has been anounced and is expected to be released under the title El Impulso in April, 2007. The new album will contain 13 tracks.[1]

They have reached a certain level of success not only in Uruguay but also in neighbouring Argentina.
