[edit] Band history
Mark Kilpatrick and Gustavo Laureano met in Orlando, Florida before moving to Miami Beach. They began rehearsing in a local warehouse along with drummer John Lengel and guitarist Carlos Figueroa . Producer Jorge Alvarez introduced them to Andrés Levin, and La Secta Allstar signed a record deal with Fonovisa soon after. Their debut album, called Aniquila, was released in 1997. Bombón de Azúcar was released in 1999 and the title song, "Bombón de Azúcar" was recorded and interpreted by noted puertorrican singer Ricky Martin. It is important to note that Bombón de Azúcar was the same album as Aniquila except the songs "Si Tú No Estás" and "Mar y Marea" were substituted for the Spanish and English (or more like Spanglish) versions of "Bombón de Azúcar" and a new track titled "Luna de Día". Bombón de Azúcar was rereleased in 2007 with the addition of "Mar y Marea" while "Si Tú No Estás" hasn't been rereleased. La Secta Allstar followed in 2001, the live album Una Noche in 2003, Túnel in 2004 and Consejo in 2005.
The band owns a great amount of achievements and recognitions in their 15 years of trajectory. They reached the #1 position in Puerto Rico with their songs "Bombón de Azúcar", "Dame Lo Que Quieras", "Hey Corazón", "Pecar por Ti", "Consejo" and "La Locura Automática". Their last three albums AllStar, Túnel and Consejo, have debuted in the #1 position in Puerto Rico in all categories. They obtained an ASCAP award for their single "Dame Lo Que Quieras" and won the "Premio Tu Música" with their album Túnel in the category of "Mejor Album de Rock" (Best Rock Album).
Their album Consejo (2005), also debuted between the first 11 positions in the Latin charts of the United States. The album has placed the singles "Consejo" and "La Locura Automática" in the preference lists in radio stations in the United States. It also has collaborations with many noted artists like Wilkins and famous reggaeton artists Wisin y Yandel. Consejo has been nominated to a Grammy, Premios Lo Nuestro and won a Billboard Award in 2006 only.
A remix of "La Locura Automática" can be found on "Los 12 Discipulos", a reggaeton album by Eddie Dee, and on the Deluxe Edition of Consejo (along with another remix and a bonus DVD).
