La Merced District is one of 5 districts in the Aija Province, of the Ancash Region in Peru.

In the geographical frame of "slopes", between the 77°43 ´ 57 " South Latitude and 77°35 ´ 51 " Longitude west, finds the District of the Merced, Province of Aija. With an average altitude of 3,272 m.s.n.m., his ground is the characteristic one of the saw cisandina of Ancash, opposite to the Pacific Ocean.

His importance inside the concert of the districts of Aija is clear, not only for his closeness to the capital of the Province, if not for the emulation of improvement and progress that characterizes his children, being already traditional that not “ there is no mercedino situated evil where that one finds ”. Here everything does to big: The management holiday of the Virgin of the Favors, summons for the mercedinos of all the latitudes, so that, in healthy competition of bands of musicians, "potos" of chicha and toast of "huashcu", there is ratified his multitudinous character, which turns it in the biggest of the Province.

The Merced, name that could as devotion and fé to the Virgin of the Favors. In 1936, he acquires the category of district, by means of the Law that creates the Province of Aija.
