La Guajira Desert is located in the most northern part of Colombia in the La Guajira Department, covering most of La Guajira Peninsula including some of Venezuelan territory. This desert holds immense coal reserves, exploited in a zone known as El Cerrejon. This Desert is home to a native american culture called Wayuus and a variety of desertic flora and fauna.
