The La Costa Resort and Spa is a luxury resort located in Carlsbad, California, and is best known for its world famous golf courses and its beautiful location in the San Diego area hills. Every year in late July or early August, the resort hosts a woman's professional tennis tournament, now known as the Acura Classic. It has also served as a home to two professional golf events. In 1969, the resort first hosted the Mercedes Championships (originally called the Tournament of Champions). After that event left for Maui, Hawaii, La Costa hosted the WGC-Accenture World Matchplay Championship from 1999-2006, except for 2001. The resort is currently without a PGA event. [1]
