L.B. (Bouke) Van der Meer is a professor of archaeology at the University of Leiden.

He is a leading authority on the Etruscan language and co-author, with Robert S. P. Beekes of De Etrusken Spreken Muiderberg: Coutinho, 1991, and an advocate of the oriental origin theory for the Etruscans:
