L'Oiseau Et L'Enfant

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

L'Oiseau Et L'Enfant (English translation: "The Bird And The Child") was the winning song in the Eurovision Song Contest 1977 performed in French by Marie Myriam representing France.
The song was performed eighteenth on the night (following Belgium's Dream Express with A Million In One, Two, Three). At the close of voting, it had received 136 points, placing 1st in a field of 18

The song is a ballad with the extended metaphor that the "bird" of the title is the singer's lover, while the "child" is the singer herself. Within this, the song is famous for its dramatic imagery.

The song was succeeded in 1978 as Contest winner by Izhar Cohen performing A-Ba-Ni-Bi for Israel.
It was succeeded as French representative at the 1978 Contest by Joël Prévost with Il Y Aura Toujours Des Violons.
