L'Occitane (in full L'Occitane en Provence) (phonetically pronounced lox-ee-tahn) is a French retailer of body, face and home products with boutiques located all around the world. L'Occitane has various collections which are based on fragrances derived from botanicals grown in the tradition of Provence, some but not all of which are organically grown. The targeted demographic of L'Occitane is women, however there is an ever-expanding product line for targeted exclusively to men. According to their philosophy, the core values of Sensorality, Authenticity and Respect are central to every aspect of L'Occitane. For over twenty-five years the fertile south of France has remained the inspiration for all L'Occitane fragrances, bath, body and skincare products for women and men, as well as fragrant products for the home. The generous Provençale climate and soil yield an exceptional variety of fragrant plants with unique properties, according to L'Occitane, and their objective is to revive the use of these plants, preserve local customs, as well as to update traditional products. Reviving traditions is only part of the L'Occitane philosophy. Respect for the environment, consumers, suppliers and employees is ingrained in every aspect of L'Occitane en Provence. One such example of this respect is the partnership with a women's cooperative in Burkina Faso. There, the village women harvest Shea nuts and co-produce shea butter, which is used in many L'Occitane products. The money these women earn for their hard work is theirs alone.
