Mr. Calderón has also made overtures to prominent PRD members who are old or potential rivals of Mr. López Obrador. During the campaign, he met with PRD founder Cuauhtemoc Cárdenas, who is distanced from Mr. López Obrador. Officials say the night of the election he talked by phone with Lázaro Cárdenas Batel, Mr. Cárdenas's son, who is governor of Michoacán, and a potential rival to Mr. López Obrador for leadership of the PRD.
