[edit] History

The station, which signed on October 1, 1953, is Springfield's second television station, KTTS-TV (Now KOLR) signed on in March. Although KYTV has been a NBC affiliate since their sign-on, they also shared a secondary ABC affiliation with KTTS (now KOLR) until 1967 when KMTC (which later became KDEB-TV and is now KSFX-TV) made its debut.

In the mid-1970s, KYTV was acquired by Harte-Hanks Communications. Schurz Communications, the current owner, bought the station in 1987.

KYTV also operates a low-powered UHF outlet and sister station K15CZ, the region's The CW affiliate, which is also seen on KYTV's digital signal.

KYTV's digital signal consists of itself on 3.1, K15CZ, the CW affiliate on 3.2, and NBC Weather Plus on 3.3.

On September 21, 2006, Schurz Communications and its subsidery, KY3 Inc., entered into an agreement with Perkin Media. KY3 Inc. acquired all non-FCC assets, while Perkin Media acquired the FCC assets of KSPR.
