Kyrgyzstan Airlines

Kyrgyzstan Airlines is the national airline of the former soviet republic of Kyrgyzstan based in Bishkek. It operates scheduled international and domestic services and charter flights. Its main base is Manas International Airport, Bishkek [1].

The airline was originally Aeroflot Kyrgyzstan Directorate and was established in 1992. It signed a co-operation agreement with Aeroflot in October 1997 covering new scheduled services, aircraft maintenance, ticketing and marketing. It is owned by the government (81%) and private shareholders (19%) [1].

Scheduled services operated by the airline include (at August 2006):
- Bishkek to Delhi, Dushanbe, Jalal-Abad, Moscow, Novosibirsk, Osh, Seoul, Sharjah, Ürümqi and Yekaterinburg.
A charter service is operated from Bishkek to Beijing.
[edit] Incidents and accidents
- On 26 September 2006 a Kyrgyzstan Airlines Tupolev Tu-154 aircraft taking off at Bishkek (bound for Moscow with 52 passengers and 9 crew on board) lost part of its wing in a collision with a USAF Boeing KC-135 tanker. The aircraft was able to take off and return to make a safe landing with a 2.5m part of the wing cut away. [3]
