[edit] History

[edit] Samurai Shodown

Kyoshiro is a master of the ancient art of Kabuki, utilizing its artful interpretations and majestic actions to construct a beautiful fighting art. To this end, Kyoshiro is determined to prove to the world the "magic" of the art and duels any opponents he meets.

[edit] Samurai Shodown 2

Still traveling the country of Japan in search of his dream, Kyoshiro is now accompanied by his faithful attendant. However, unexpectedly, his companion becomes possessed by a demon. Determined to prove his strength, he slays him/her and sets out on a vendetta against others. As Haohmaru and Nakoruru seal Mizuki in the Makai, he speaks to the now-free priestess Bizuki and restores her faith.

[edit] Samurai Shodown 3

Hearing of the "Demon" during his tour of Hizen, Kyoshiro takes a detour to the "Dark Castle" to verify the rumors. Little does he know what horrors await him...

[edit] Samurai Shodown 4

After besting Zankuro and Ukyo, Kyoshiro became the world's most known kabuki. However, his new dances unwittingly spawned a new evil which sought out Kyoshiro with malicious intent.

[edit] Samurai Shodown 5

Convinced people are sad because of the current state in Japan, Kyoshiro decides to cheer people up with his Kabuki. After practicing for a bit, Kyoshiro decides to go on the road, in the hopes of perhaps finding a new Kabuki style and using his adventure as the story for his Kabuki act.

Kyoshiro is inspired to mix his Kabuki act and his fighting style to create the new Kabuki. Kyoshiro is then interrupted by a mysterious fighter with a boomerang and his master, who have also created a new style by mixing two martial arts styles. The student and Kyoshiro then fight to see whose mixed style is better.

[edit] Trivia

Kyoshiro's first look
Kyoshiro's first look
  • Kyoshiro is one of the first kabuki dancers in a fighting game, as one of the few artists in the series, along with Taizan Morosumi from Samurai Shodown 64: Warriors Rage.
  • Kyoshiro's names are based in various characters. Kyoshiro is from Nemuri Kyôshirô, the protagonist of the Sleepy Eyes of Death Japanese film series, probably based in Nemuri's personality and red hair (and who sometimes also uses a Naginata as weapon). Senryô is the name of a legendary Kabuki dancer, who was too skilled to gain a lot of Ryô as salary.
  • Kyoshiro's fighting style combines Kabuki dance with the use of a Naginata as weapon.
  • Kyoshiro is one of the characters who got the most extreme changes in the series, mainly in his look.
  • The mysterious teacher in Kyoshiro's ending in Samurai Shodown V appears to be Ryuhaku Todoh from the Art of Fighting series. Since the master speaks of developing a new style of mixed martial arts and Todoh uses a style of Kendo and Aikido, it is possibly Todoh. His appearance, however, is chronologically unsound, since the game takes place in 1786 and Art of Fighting takes place in the late 1970's and early 1980's, about 200 years apart. Interestingly enough, the man with the boomerang, given his appearance, happens to be an ancestor of Hayate, the main character in another one of SNK's fighting game series, Savage Reign. Also, it is possible that since "Todoh" seems to speak of combining two different styles, which in this Hayate's case, a boomerang and martial arts, he could be an ancestor of the master in Hayate's background in the aforementioned game, and his resemblance to Todoh a coincidence.
