Kwayhquitlum Middle School in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, is a Canadian middle school.
Kwayhquitlum Middle School is a grade 6-8 dual track English and French Immersion School with approximately 700 students. Kwayhquitlum Middle School was one of the original two middle schools in the Coquitlam School District, opening in September 1994, and was the first school in our district to honour Native people by using a Native name for the school.
Sto: Lo artist George Pennier designed Kwayhquitlum Middle School's distinctive logo especially for our school. The Eagle is the native symbol for the Great Spirit and the Eagle's feathers are the most sacred of healing tools. Eagle feathers were often given as a symbol of friendship and peace. The salmon is the sustainer of life for the people along the river and the central circle represents the salmon egg: the beginning of life. The salmon's tail contains the face of the Eagle's young, and the Eagle's wing feathers form a motif of the human hand. The hand represents humanity and our place within the great wheel of life.
It is located at 3280 Flint Street. As of 2006, the current school principal is Fred Schaefer, and vice-principal Ceccini. They have their classes in "Pods" starting with Thunderbirds: Woode, Timberwolves: Cox, Orcas: Penk, Eagles: Adrian, Bears: Staniforth.
