Kurt Austin

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kurt Austin is the the newest hero of the NUMA Files series of books written by Clive Cussler and Paul Kemprecos.

Around 40 years of age, Austin is described as just over six feet tall, around two hundred pounds, having a big build with white hair and blue eyes. His eyes, a trademark of Cussler heroes, are blue-green, the "color of coral under water." When not on adventures with his buddy, Joe Zavala, he is usually at his home in Fairfax County, Virginia along the Potomac River where he can practice rowing.

Austin's father is a wealthy marine engineer in Seattle, where Austin was born and raised. He was hired into the CIA during the Cold War and served on numerous missions involving marine skills, which he honed on jobs with his father and during his own career. Once the Cold War ended, he was brought into NUMA by Admiral James Sandecker to serve as Special Assignments Team Leader.

Two more characters introduced by Cussler in his new series were Paul and Gamay (pronounced Gamee) Trout. The Trouts are marine specialists, Paul being exceptionally tall with a peculiar dress sense and Gamay sporting trademark red hair and an adventurous attitude.

The novels featuring Kurt Austin as the main character feature the subtitle “A Novel from The NUMA FILES.”

As opposed to Cussler’s other hero, Dirk Pitt, Austin is more of an introvert. He is an avid reader, drawing from his personal collection of philosophy books as well as always adding to his personal collection of dueling pistols.
