[edit] Fictional character biography
Kurse was originally the most powerful of the Dark Elves, and was known as Algrim the Strong. He first encountered Thor while assisting Malekith the Accursed, the ruler of the Dark Elves. While Thor and Algrim fought, Malekith ordered that a pitfall be opened beneath their feet, as a result of which Algrim fell into a lake of molten lava (Thor flew to safety using his enchanted hammer).
Algrim survived, thanks to his enchanted armour, but was terribly injured. He was left with amnesia and a consuming hatred of Thor. Later he was fully healed, at least physically, by the Beyonder, a virtually omnipotent alien being. The Beyonder transformed Algrim into the greatly more powerful being henceforth known as Kurse. Kurse was said to be twice as strong as Thor. During his hunting for Thor however; Kurse inadvertedly wounded Margaret Power, in which caused her children, also known as Power Pack, to temporary defeat (but not destroy) him. Kurse later encountered and nearly killed Beta Ray Bill, before finally finding Thor.
In a battle between Kurse and Thor, the thunder god used his belt of strength to double his own strength, making him Kurse's equal. However, the Beyonder replied by increasing Kurse's strength even further, so that he was still far more powerful than Thor. Kurse was beaten when Energizer of Power Pack channeled energy from Thor and Beta Ray Bill's hammers into a blast that knocked Kurse unconscious.
Kurse came to realise that Malekith, not Thor, was to blame for his suffering, and he obtained vengeance by killing Malekith. Kurse grew docile, almost child-like in demeanor, and was granted citizenship among the Asgardians by Odin. Kurse was designated as the guardian of the children of Asgard, where he served happily until Ragnarok. Kurse was killed during the epic battle, as were all other Asgardians including Thor, while defending many of Asgard's children.
[edit] Powers and abilities
Kurse possesses a number of superhuman attributes as a result of his natural physiology and mystical augmentation.
Kurse possesses vast superhuman strength, the exact limits of which are unknown. Kurse's strength, originally, is roughly equal to that of Thor. However, at a later time, the nearly omnipotent being known as the Beyonder, increase's Kurse's strength to the point that he is twice as strong as Thor. As a result, Thor uses his Belt of Strength, which doubles his strength, in order to match Kurse. As a result, however, the Beyonder enhanced Kurse's strength once again. While the upper limit of Kurse's strength is a mystery, his strength is much greater than Thor's.
Aside from his great strength, Kurse's body is highly resistant to all forms of physical injury. Kurse is able to withstand the force of great impacts, falls from tremendous heights, temperature extremes, and powerful energy blasts without sustaining injury. However, it is possible to injure or incapacitate Kurse. Kurse has been rendered unconscious when Energizer, a member of the superhero team known as the Power Pack takes all energy/magic from both Mjolnir and Stormbreaker and blasts Kurse, draining both hammers until Beyonder restored their magic. Also, like all members of the Dark Elves, Kurse is mystically vulnerable to iron. Weapons composed of iron can cause him harm whereas weapons forged of other materials won't.
Kurse's enchanted armour is fused to his skin and has become a part of his body, which helps to supplement his body's already high resistance to physical injury. Kurse has the ability to sense and track his opponents over large distances and can see through illusions and disguises his opponents may be wearing.
