Kumla Municipality is a Swedish municipality, in the Närke province in central Sweden, administratively belonging to Örebro County. Its seat is in Kumla with 12,500 inhabitants.

With 205 km² the smallest in Örebro County.

Traditionally Kumla was known as a shoemaker town with a history to the first half of the 19th century. Its city arms from 1941 depict two shoemaker hammers. Beneath them a three-hill that symbolizes the Kumla Högar gravefield outside the town.

In 1920, Kumla was still a small town.

Kumla got city privileges in 1942, becoming a city in Sweden. The mural crown on its arms signifies this; although the crown has never been an official part of its arm it is still permitted due to Kumla's historical city privileges.

Today the industry is dominated by the manufacturing of jam at BOB industries, and communication systems at an Ericsson industry.

Today the name Kumla is renowned for its prison ("the Kumla Institution", or Kumlaanstalten), which is the largest prison in the country. Opened it 1965, it can currently allow 261 inmates, with a similarly large staff, and is designated for "difficult" inmates and for those at the start of a life term sentence. It is one of three Swedish prisons housing the most notorious and dangerous inmates.
