Kumbla

Kumbla is an Indian town situated close to the border of the southern Indian states of Karnataka and Kerala. In the Kannada language of southern India it is more popularly known as Kumbale.
Although it once belonged to Karnataka, it was later merged with the neighbouring Kerala. The name Kumbla/Kumbale was derived from Kanipura (or the land of Kanwa Maharshi).
It is the home of a very popular Gopalakrishna temple and a center for nightly folk opera called Yakshagaana. The temple of Ananthapura is about 5-6 Kilometres east of Kumbla enroute to Puttur.
It is a major hub of trade for popular local crops such as betel nut (areca or 'adike') and coconut.

Temple is located in the heart of the town, very famous kumblebedi is celebrated on January 17th of every year,in the temple. There was once a plywood factory in Kumbla. However due to political issues, this factory has now been closed. There was also an Australian military base here during World War Two.

Kumbla has a railway station on the Indian Railways network. There are several bus stations throughout the town and available taxi service. This town is easily accessible from Mangalooru( Kudla in Tulu ) a major city situated in state of Karnataka either by train, bus or taxi.
