Kuinre

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kuinre is a village in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located in the municipality of Steenwijkerland. Kuinre is a formal coastal town with a very rich history. Back in the days of the Zuiderzee Kuinre`s harbour was one of the most important ports of the Zuiderzee. After completation of the Noordoostpolder Kuinre became isolated in land, companies, shops, fisherman went out of business and was (still is) totally neglected by the Dutch government.

Jerome, Guitarist/Singer of Mexican/Spanish/Dutch rockband "Los Provocados" famous nowadays in Mexico, has his roots in this town.

Kuunder is also the home for the football club "S.C. Kuunder". This team was founded in 2005, and has since then already achieved a whole lot. With players like Dumitru Ursica and Dirk Jan Zwaanswijk, Kuunder has achieved to get a wide range of fans, all over the world (of hattrick).

Kuinre was a separate municipality until 1973, when it became a part of IJsselham.[1]
