Kublai Khan (band)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kublai Khan is a thrash metal band formed in 1985 in Minnesota. The band was founded by guitarist and vocalist Greg Handevidt (who had just returned from California having finished a short stint around 1984 playing for the early beginnings of Megadeth) and guitarist Kevin Idso. Kublai Khan's debut album, entitled Annihilation (recorded March 6 to March 8, 1987), was released in 1987; it was received well at the time. Having quickly developed a fairly large local fan base, Kublai Khan were offered some gigs to open for well-known touring acts such as Metal Church, King Diamond and Kreator. Unfortunately, they disbanded two years later citing inner conflicts and problems with management.
Recently, in July of 2003, Annihilation was remastered and released once more by Exit Only Records. Around that time as well a renewed lineup of Kublai Khan was rumored to have started pre-production for a new album; new members Clint Burton (Bass) and Jason Weber (Drums) joined founding members Handevidt and Idso (this line-up also goes under the name of Kronk). The band is currently considered as being active once again, but as of yet nothing new has been heard from them.
