[edit] Your username

Hey Kuakini... your username and that of our admin user:Kukini are all of one letter different. Please read WP:U and try to change your name. Thanks. I'm filing a WP:RFCN to see what the other users think about your name. Cheers! NikoSilver 00:18, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Your username has been blocked indefinitely because it may be rude or inflammatory, unnecessarily long/confusing, too similar to an existing user, contains the name of an organization or website, or is otherwise inappropriate (see our blocking and username policies for more information).

You are encouraged to create a new account and contribute to Wikipedia under a more appropriate username. Wikipedia:Username provides guidance on selecting an appropriate username. You may also edit Wikipedia without creating an account.

You are not allowed to edit Wikipedia under an inappropriate username. If you would like to discuss the block, you may appeal on your talk page or email the administrator who blocked you. Due to Wikipedia's mechanism for enforcing name changes, your IP address may be temporarily blocked. Unless you have also been engaging in vandalism or impersonation of another user, we will remove that block as soon as possible.

If you want to keep the contributions from your old account for your new username, please follow these directions: (1) Add {{unblock-un|your new username here}} to your user talk page. This is possible because even when you are blocked, you can still edit your own talk page. (2) Soon, an admin may come to unblock you. (3) You will have 24 hours after the unblock to file a request on Wikipedia:Changing username before you may be re-blocked. Note that this can only be done before you create the new one. For more information, please visit Wikipedia:Changing username. In many cases (especially if your account has few or no edits), it is a lot easier to create a new account. HighInBC (Need help? [edit] Userpages

Judging from yours, it looks like you'd given mine a visit before the unfortunate events above. Just thought I'd leave a hello. Hope to see you back soon with a different account. Dekimasu? 09:49, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Request reason: "There are only 13 letters in the Hawaiian language, so therefore any word or phrase in the Hawaiian language is going to have some resemblance to another word in the language. Specifically, if we'd like to split hairs about this, I am from Hawaii, whereas Kukini is not, nor does he know Hawaiian, nor does he have any claim to his name beyond the fact that he thinks it's cool and saw it on some Nike shoe commercial. My name is given to me by my hawaiian kupuna (teacher) as a name I go by in the Hawaiian community. Me not being able to use this name on Wikipedia (which is also based on a Hawaiian term) is very insulting, and this block has kept me away from Wikipedia for several months. I formally request the block's removal. Can the subaltern speak? I certainly hope so."

Decline reason: "Sorry. Kukini (talk contribs) was here first, and your name is too similar to theirs. You are not required to choose a Hawaiian username; just choose any combination of letters that you like. Consider the following advice from WP:U: "If someone else is using a nickname that you wish to use, please consider using either an alternative pseudonym or your real name instead. In the unlikely event that someone else is editing Wikipedia with your real name, please add a middle name or initial or some other way of distinguishing between you and the existing contributor". — Sandstein 05:59, 15 March 2007 (UTC)"

Request reason: "I realize this, but my point in creating a wikipedia name is to reflect MY name in Hawaiian. I find it ironic that I'm unable to use my own name in Hawaiian because of someone who found a similar name and thought it sounded cool, whereas this name was given to me as a reflection of my own personality. It's even more ironic that "wikipedia" as an entity is divorced from the language it comes from, and the very pronunciation of "wikipedia" does not reflect its correct pronunciation in the Hawaiian language. Is there some way I can continue to use my kuakini name on Wikipedia? I have never made bad edits, have helped to mediate disputes, and just signed in one day and found that my account has been blocked. I realize that a policy exists outlining name use, but is there some way I can discuss this without just being refused by administrators who only give my argument a few seconds of consideration?"

Decline reason: "I understand your problem and I'm sorry that our policies are causing this hassle. Could you use Kuakini.SomethingElse, perhaps? Using your real last name or something, something that would clearly distinguish you? — Yamla 15:36, 15 March 2007 (UTC)"

Request reason: "okay, how about this: I change my username to "Kuākini" which VERY VISIBLY differentiates myself from "kukini" with emphasis on the macron over the a (as is gramatically correct in Hawaiian anyway) and should be CLEAR to anyone seeing the two accounts that myself and kukini are different users. I think this is quite reasonable."
