Hi there! I was reading the wiki meetup for Toronto page [1] and noticed that it listed you as living in Richmond Hill. That's actually where I live, but it put me under Toronto when I signed up for the group and it's too much hassle to change it. Did you move since then? I hope they host a Toronto meetup sometime, that'd be sweet. Hey, Nick. Another Torontonian Wikipedian here. Have you heard of any upcoming meetup in Toronto? And What's your general idea of the Toronto media towards Wikipedia? I am not a reporter of any sort. However such information would be very useful as the Chinese Wikipedia is geering up for a general meeting in the coming summer. Please email me if you would not like to discuss here. I.H.S.V. Well, there's this page Wikipedia:Meetup/Toronto, but nothing solid's been organized yet.
The Star is cautious, but its Ideas section seems to adore us. The Globe seems neutral, not really caring unless something big happens against us news wise. I don't even know if The Sun has heard of us. I'm sure they have, just never seen them print anything.
As for TV, I've personally promoted the project on CP24's Homepage and internationally on the Toronto filmed Call for Help. George Strombolopolis of The Hour seems impartial at worse to us, but I think at least supports the project for informal information. CBC Radio has covered the Nature study results, and was fairly well-balanced in our favour.
The Chinese Wikipedia's general meeting... is that in China itself, or Canadian contributors to it? Curious how Toronto media and zh.wikipedia relate... were you wanting to know whether the meetup might be covered locally? BTW, you might want to join the meta:Wikimedia Canada club that just started its formation. We're going to try and, among many other things, organize meetups. -- user:zanimum

If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. I'm not sure I understand your question. Current wikipedia policy (and I believe it's always been this way even if it hasn't been enforced) is that all images must state who the copyright holder is. In this case it would be (most likely) the photographer or agency that took the photo. However, any information you can give about where the photo is from (where did you get it from?) will be helpful. Thanks Matt 20:46, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

I say that "King of Hongnong of Han China" doesn't make sense because the expression "King of ..." normally follows the pattern "King of X" where X is the name of the place that the king rules. However, "King of Hongnong of Han China" has two arguments for "of", making it grammatically incorrect (one could say "King of Hongnong and of Han China", but that, of course, is not the intended meaning). - Nat Krause(Talk!) 18:06, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

I believe my claim was not that they were not commonly used "enough" (whatever that means), but that the article, at present, provides absolutely no references to demonstrate that they are used at all. It is not my job to prove that they are not used (which is, of course, impossible). It is the job of the writers of the article to demonstrate that they are used, which they have so far signally failed to do. john k 12:43, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi! Other than the RL meetup, there's not really that much organized comradery among Canucks like us. I personally don't email people too often, it almost always "task oriented" chatter. I know Amigne in Vancouver has chatted with numerous Wikipedians over the phone, to get to know them better. AFAIK, he's the primary press contact these days, if the media contacts the Foundation.
Wikimedia Canada's pretty much dead. There's tons of interest, but only one or two people with the existing expertise and willingness to draft a non-profit organization charter. That's the main bump, and there's little point pursuing until we've fulfilled that.
I could investigate setting up an IRC forum at wikimedia-ca, pre-foundation. Do you think that would be well used?

Sorry to hear the news about Wikimedia Canada. The meetup was just a 20 minutes gathering of 3 people: myself, Josh and his friend. I left before knowing if Dhodges arrived as mentioned. BTW How well do Wikimedia and its projects integrate within the Greater Torontonian (or Canadian, in the broader sense) community? not much integration at large IMO. Expanding local influence shall be a long term goal. Professionals usually don't offer much help until the benefits are appealling (but I believe there are still kind and helpful experts out there). A designated IRC channel shall be worth trying but IMO its usefulness is suspect at present. Why creating a new English channel while the normal wikipedia IRC would preform as well? Canadian Wikipedians need better connections with each other, whether it is in IRC or newsgroups. Condolences to the victims of the Dawson College shooting (talk) 10:38, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

MBendi is absolutely accountable. But, there is absolutely no Chinese language content at the site whatsoever. Yet, in the English speaking business world, they offer extremely detailed content on Africa which is hard to find. Yet, there is no Chinese language content whatsoever. Well, I have thought about it and I can't put non-Chinese language websites on African country pages just because they are perfectly accountable. But I do have another idea that I have been thinking about for a while: Do you think it would be wise to put the roman alphabet names to the long list of names of countries at the zh Wikipedia Africa article? Everytime I go there I wonder how a Chinese reader is ever going to learn the French, English or Xhosa names of the countries if all they have is the transliterations. --McTrixie 05:58, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Well, it's hard to point to specific guidelines without frames of reference, and I'm certainly not an expert in these matters; I just have knowledge of many items that I've come across in my time here. For example, copyrighted imagry may be used on Wikipedia if it falls within Fair-use criteria, but videos and other related material cannot be reproduced in full because that violates certain copyright laws (this includes news broadcasts, music videos and full songs, television episodes, and the like). Like I said, I'm not good at dispensing information without having specifics to work off of, so if you have any procedural questions regarding specific events or occurances, I'll do my best to help, or try and refer you to someone/someplace else that can give you better information. [edit] Needing Help With Photo Copywright

Hi once more, I have a question about a recently uploaded photo that I want to use for Liuhe Pagoda of China. The article lacked any picture, and it really needs one, considering that it is one of the greatest Song Dynasty (or any) Chinese pagoda standing today.

If you would be so kind, I'd like to have you or somebody else verify the copywright license (it's some random American guy's vacation blog pic). In the meantime, I have given it the GFDL presumed tag, but if I do not verify the copywright stuff, it will be deleted in 7 days!
