KSWT, "News 13", is the CBS affiliate in Yuma, Arizona/El Centro, California. It is one of two stations in the viewing area to air local news in English (the other is KYMA).

Originally operating under the call letters KBLU, the station later became KYEL, for K Yuma-El Centro. The station was the market's NBC affiliate until KYMA went on the air. At that time, the newly renamed KSWT became an ABC affiliate until KECY-TV, until then a CBS affiliate, flipped to FOX in 1995. [1] KSWT also included Telemundo programming during the overnight hours in the 1990s, until local affiliate KESE-LP began operations. KSWT aired some PAX programming during afternoons beginning in 2000, but had reverted back to full-time CBS by 2004.

Given the Nielsen DMA ranking, KSWT is in the smallest market out of all the Pappas stations, but it serves a very large coverage area encompassing portions of two countries, two Nielsen markets, and one other market; some viewers in the Coachella Valley facing south to Imperial Valley can receive KSWT over the air, and parts of Mexicali, Mexico receive a perfect KSWT signal.

KSWT's digital channel is not yet broadcasting in high-definition.

[edit] The CW

KSWT has also picked up the new CW Television Network, which is carried on its digital sub-channel 13.2 / 16.2 over-the-air. For a short time following the launch, the CW channel could be seen on Time Warner Cable as well, on digital channel 740. During negotiations with Time Warner Cable, KSWT asked Time Warner to place it on basic cable channel 6, home of the market's former cable-only WB affiliate previously run from KECY-TV's facility in Yuma, KWUB. After several months of negotiations, KSWT 13.2 was placed on Time Warner Cable channel 6 in mid-December 2006.
