Kricketot (コロボーシ Korobōshi?) are one of the 493 fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. Kricketot is famous for being one of the Pokémon revealed before the Japanese release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The purpose of Kricketot in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]

Kricketot was first officially revealed at the PokéJungle event in Japan,[3][4] after Roserade. Kricketot first appeared similar to Illumise and Volbeat, causing some to think it was related. However, it was recently revealed to be a cricket and evolves into Korotok, sharing no relation to the Firefly Pokémon.[5]

Its English name is a portmanteau of cricket and tot. The Japanese name Korobōshi may be a portmanteau of the Japanese words for cricket (蟋蟀 korōgi?) and black-spot (黒星 kuroboshi?). It should also be noted that Kuroboshi tsutsuhamushi (Cryptocephalus signaticeps) is the name for the black-spotted leaf beetle.

The English name Kricketot was confirmed at the 2007 American International Toy Fair in New York City.[6]

[edit] Biological characteristics

Its two large antennae function not only as feelers, but also as a musical instrument. In order to create sounds, it swings its head around, causing the feelers to collide and make a sound like a xylophone. Kricketot's design is based on a composer or conductor; its body resembles an orchestra conductor's costume.

Collars of the female are noticeably larger than those of the male.

[edit] In the video games

This Pokémon only learns two attacks, Growl and Bide.

Its base stats are very low, ranging in from the mid 20's to the lower 40's. However, these improve upon its evolution into Korotok at level 10.
