Sir Anthony Mason
You have twice undone my edits to the page on Sir Anthony Mason. I changed the words "naval officer" to "Royal Australian Air Force officer". Sir Anthony was never in the Navy (see http://www.hkmla.org/events/0001011.pdf, particularly page 4). The page I attempted to edit even mentions Sir Anthony's Air Force service further down the page.
I can't understand how you could possibly say my two attempted edits were improper - they were both the correction of an error (and a contradiction) in the article.
Please change it back.
- You're correct, and I apologize - but I only reverted this page once. I'm not Australian, and most of the time when a biographical entry is changed from 'Air Force' to 'Navy' (or other such service-switches) it's done as a prank. I've been dealing with a lot of genre- and occupation-switching tonight - folks moving the genre of a kids' music album from 'pop' to 'torture' or 'female' to 'gorilla' (and those are both actual reverts I've done) - that kind of thing.
- Feel free to revert my edit, and I apologize for the inconvenience. (I'll do it if you don't want to, but it's a good task for a novice Wikipedian to learn, and it's not at all hard. Here's the how-to guide. Also, be sure to sign your posts, on talk pages like this one, with four tildes like ~~~~ .)
- I now know that Sir Anthony Mason flew, and did not swim. Thanks for the message, and welcome to Wikipedia. Please let me know if you need assistance. Baseball,Baby! take a swing 08:40, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
Ian Callinan
I made amendments to the biography of Justice Ian Callinan and you reversed them. Currently there are links to two of six books on the page. I deleted the two current links (which are to Amazon pages that say nothing) and inserted a link to the publisher's information page for each book so that people could actually see what the books are about, as opposed to a useless Amazon page that says little more than they do not stock the book.
The changes should be allowed, I can't understand any objection to them, they simply provide more information to readers.
- I am not responsible for edits to Ian Callinan. Go to the article page, click the "History" tab at the top, then look down the list to see who reverted it. 'Twas not I.
- It looks like he thought your URLs promoted a bookstore instead of going to a neutral vendor or site (such as Amazon.com, which also provides reader reviews and other such stuff). There's a <ref> tag that is used for footnotes and references and the like, and it uses the ISBN number instead of a link to a particular vendor, and it would probably be better to use it in a case like this. If you're interested and have a basic understanding of HTML (as it seems you do), you can find it via the 'Help' link over to your left.
- Let me know if I can help you further, especially if you have trouble with the reference system - I had to spend a while working with it before I got it to work well. Why not register for a user account and stick around? If you do, be sure to leave me a message on my talk page with your user name.
- Thanks again for the messages, and I'm really sorry I wasn't the Ian Callinan culprit. I am, however, repeating the phrase 'Mason = RAAF" over and over to myself. :) Baseball,Baby! take a swing 08:54, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
hey
the dropper thing deleted my writing and posted wrongly
- I assume you're talking about Dropper, because that's the only dropper I can find in my recent history. I reverted your edit because, as you state, you inadvertently blanked the page. The note on your talk page was just a reminder to be careful and hit the 'Show preview' button to make sure you're not saving something (or, in this case, nothing :) ). We RC patrollers are always checking behind you, just to make sure.
- Stuff like happens to the best of us from time to time, so don't sweat it. Just repeat to yourself, "Preview is my friend. Preview is my friend." :) Welcome to Wikipedia - I hope you register for an account and stick around! Baseball,Baby! take a swing 14:51, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
dropper person again...
i try to add to the page but it doesn't work! Im scared i might delete something again...i think the chemical use of dropper should be added. Thanks.
- Hello again!
- Is this kind of dropper what you're trying to add? If so, take a look at the top of that page - it's the entry for pipette, but eyedropper redirects there and that shows under the title - see where it says 'redirected from eyedropper'? It's wiki magic!
- If that's not what you're trying to say about 'dropper', drop (no pun intended) back by my talk page and give me a couple of sentences about what you're trying to say, so I can help you edit it in. Also, a great way to ask for help is to just put {{helpme}} at the top of your user page and someone will stop by within moments to help (see up there where, in red, it says 'user page'? just copy and paste this {{helpme}} tag into the edit box and save).
- And don't be afraid about making mistakes – just take a look at all the people on my own talk page who think I've made mistakes. Be bold - it's okay! If you hit the 'Show preview' button before you 'Save page', you'll be fine. And be sure to put in an edit summary – if you're not sure about an edit, just say so in the edit summary and someone will come along behind you and fix it. You'll be an experienced editor in no time - I believe in you! - Baseball,Baby! take a swing 03:13, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

HERE'S THE SITE MAN: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-obit-odomsson&prov=ap&type=lgns NOW CHANGE MY EDIT BACK!!!! 69.229.173.99 05:37, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
(duplicate, abusive message removed, but available in the edit history for those interested)
- Thanks for the message. I reverted the edit because there is no evidence in the citations for any kind of police investigation for child endangerment. The encyclopedia can't say something that isn't verifiable, so I reverted down to the last version without a claim of child endangerment. Regardless of your protest, the Yahoo URL to which you refer and the ESPN article (the [1] citation in the current version) are identical. Take a look for yourself.
- When published, verifiable reports come out about the actual cause of death, as I'm sure they will soon, the facts can be included in the entry and you're free to do so. Until it's a fact, however, it can't go in this article. I stand by my edit. Baseball,Baby! take a swing 06:32, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
add some MOJO
Hey BaseBall,
I added a link yesterday and you removed it ( Logo-Mojo.com ). I felt that it was an interesting section that related to the topic of the page. It revolved around logo designs and displayed many worldwide bands. Anyone starting a business and was thinking of creating a logo would only benefit from the information on that page.
However I can understand your point in not wanting to have sites use Wikipedia to advertise their own web site, I do feel that it was a content related and infomational page.
Having people learn about what they want to buy before they buy it is important, which is why I joined Wik.
Thanks, Robert
- Hi - This exact issue was discussed on the article's talk page quite some time ago. If you want to revisit the decision, the talk page is the place to go. I did look at your submitted site before I acted, and I saw that it's clearly commercial. When a home page boasts of thousands of "satisfied clients," it's commercial and not allowed. If yours was permitted, the spam bots probably wouldn't be far behind to add more.
- I guess you could look at it like this: your preferred site isn't listed, but no one else's is either. Wikipedia really isn't the place to go to make a buying decision anyway. As I said, feel free to discuss it on the article's talk page. Thanks for the message, and happy editing - Baseball,Baby! take a swing 09:56, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

George Washington Religious Section Deleted
If you look at the discussion section under George Washington you will find that there is much discussion about deleting the section entitled Religious Beliefs. I made the decision to delete the section altogether due to the many biased and ignorant data input by many liberals and atheists. It is a well known documented fact that George Washington was a Christian and was very strong in his faith. There is much evidence supporting this fact and I put that information in yesterday. But, someone deleted all of that information. Please do not put the information about Deist beliefs back in unless you allow the information about his strong Christian faith to be put back in as well. Be objective.
- Whatever has to be done to stop those liberals has to be done. *rolls eyes* Baseball,Baby! take a swing 16:18, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Reno
Nice job on the Reno bio. You are using a dramaticaly different style of Notes than other ACW articles and although I won't ask you to change them, I'd ask that you keep our style in mind if you work on future articles in this space. I have summarized them in my "style guide", User:Hlj/CWediting, and there are recent examples in William T. Sherman, George B. McClellan, and Battle of Antietam. We cite the books in the References section and use the Notes to briefly identify the pages for citations, like real footnotes. We also rarely use See also to show links already in the article. Hal Jespersen 16:21, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the message. I used the style outlined at Wikipedia:Footnotes, but I'll edit the entry later to conform to the ACW style. I want to start another one on the North Carolina Expedition, because there's a category for it but no entry. The Maryland Campaign has an entry, so I was surprised not to find one on Burnside's expedition. I have to do more reading first, and I'll change those footnotes before I start to get up to speed. Thanks again - Baseball,Baby! take a swing 16:33, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
I'm doing a minor edit on your article, so wait 20 mins before proceeding. Thanks. As you do the NC Ex article, check out Eastern Theater of the American Civil War. I've written a lot of these campaign articles, but never got to that one. Hal Jespersen 16:39, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
Although there may be deviations about, the algorithm I use is to separate materials used as sources (including anything appearing in a footnote) from those that are merely interesting additional information:
- Sources: both books and URLs go into References
- Additional info: books go into Further reading, URLs into External links
I'm not asking you to recode the 'cite' mechanisms, which I find much clumsier to code than the format I use, but to consider not using them in future ACW articles. Hal Jespersen 15:46, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
Lumiere (restaurant)
I am assuming you are talking about that restaurant and well, I didn't copy it word for word. All I did was I put some parts as it was shown. But otherwise I did my best to paraphrase a lot of stuff in the article. Oh and if you want to help paraphrase the article then you are more then welcome to. Mr. C.C. 20:17, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Friday nights on the Wiki
You're welcome, and it's an interesting observation. For two years now I've been reverting vandalism, and I've noticed this: the silly vandalism is during school days, and the really malicious stuff tends to happen on Friday and Saturday nights. Interesting ... :-) Antandrus (talk) 00:45, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- Exactly! Speaking of which, there is something wrong with Your GPS coordinates, I think. Johntex\talk 21:43, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- Yes, I was actually speaking of the number of significant figures. It seems that the OU article had many more significant digits (and they were repeating digits) than any other article (at least the ones I checked) so I just shaved some off. It doesn't seem to hurt the map view at all, and it makes the article look a little better, IMO. Johntex\talk 02:59, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
Reverted Masturbation Page
Tantric Buddhism Vajrayana. Under article masturbation, I made an edit that changed the statement that Buddhism generally advises against masturbation, which the article at the moment claims... and noted that tantric Buddhism has NO such admonition, and in fact, taught enlightenment through sensory stimulation. You can find this *fact* located in the tantric Buddhist link above Vajrayana. You also removed the notation to the branch of Buddhism that was able to produce semen upon demand, without stimulation, and that is a fact, as well. (And actually , a rather impressive, if not weird mind over body demonstration) While I can see removing the "Middle way" reference, it was commentary, the other two are abject facts, and demonstrate that not all Buddhism "ignores" masturbation, as it simply *isn't* true. You aren't posting from an abstinence only state are you ?
I guess we might as well discuss it here, before we get into a posting war.....
Zebra
Thanks for reverting the eronneous edit re the zebra striping. Unfortunately in your 'Edit Summary' you accidently repeated the error 'they are white with black' rather than saying 'black with white'.
I intend to add a whole section on the striping when I get around to it (I suspect 'zebra' is the type of article that would attract a lot of people like young kids that just think things like that one way or the other, and would just change to what they think rather bother to check the references; hopefully if I put a whole section on it it will be less likely to be randomly changed). --jjron 11:55, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Metal Skool speedy deletion
Hello, you tagged the page I created for speedy deletion (Metal Skool). I've added a note to the talk page of the article about it, and added some citations and more information about their notability. I also made a note at Wikipedia:Speedy_deletions. Please review these and remove the speedy template, otherwise get back to me and move the article to AFD if you still think it's non-notable. I'll have you know I'm a member of The Association of Inclusionist Wikipedians, so not only will I put up a fight, I'll bring friends ;). How exactly did I vandalize the Elvis page???
Please explain it to me. Eveybody knows about the untrue rumors that have been spread about Elvis and his mother. In fact, the other day I had a conversation with someone who said "didn't Elvis have sex with his mother?" I stated it in a totally NPOV manner. All I aid that was that some have ALLEGED but that the rumors have no basis in fact. If there's an enitre section dedicated to allegind that Elvis was a racist with absolutely no factual backing then how is my entry out-of-line? --24.35.15.107 23:26, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
I'm sorry but that's not a good argument, Baseball. I specifically said that the allegations are false. The reason why I added them was that it is rumored by more people than you'd think that they are true. Again, why is my entry deleted yet there is still all sorts of unproven allegations that remain on Elvis' article (i.e. Racism, him still being alive)???? There is absolutely no proof that Elvis is still alive yet because a fringe minority still believe that he is that warrants an entry???? --24.35.15.107 23:38, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Derrick Alexander Disambiguation
I believe there were 2 players named "Derrick Alexander" that played in the NFL, yet one only has an entry on Wikipedia. How do I go making a disambig page for both of them?
ColdRedRain 01:06, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'm copying my response to CRR here, in case others need the information.
- This isn't too hard to do. Both spell their name the same way, but at least one is a wideout and one's a DE. If you know Derrick Defense's middle name, that's the easiest way to differ, but if not you can do it like this.
- Wikipedia has an entry for Derrick Offense, and we're going to keep it the main 'Derrick' because he's older and entered the NFL first, and because he's got links to his entry already. Changing his name by moving his page is a nightmare, so we're gonna add Derrick Defense.
- * Start your new page with a title like "Derrick Alexander (defensive end)," or some other difference - you can say "(Florida State)" or "(Cleveland Browns)" or whatever you like. Be sure it's capitalized correctly and with correct punctuation for whatever you decide, because you only have one shot. We don't want to have to move the page for a typo.
- * The first line of your article, add a sentence saying (in italics) "This article is about Derrick Alexander the defensive end from Florida State. For the wide receiver from Michigan, see Derrick Alexander." (I hope that's right - I think he was from Michigan.) When you're finished writing your article, do the same thing at the Derrick Offense page - "this is the entry for Derrick Offense, for the lineman from FSU see Derrick Alexander (defensive end). Wikilink their names.
- * Then write your article and save. Put the categories in it, for Browns and defensive ends and Florida State and all those things. Use another entry as reference for structure and content. If you don't have time to do it all in one sitting, a stub is better than nothing. You can come back to it another time, and someone else may very well have pitched in to help.
- * Now, make some redirects for search terms like 'Derrick Alexander Browns' and 'Derrick Alexander defense', search terms that someone might use to look for Derrick Defense (see WP:REDIRECT for help - it's easy). You want it to be easy to find for people who are trying to find it, so if they put in 'derrick alexander end' and hit 'Go' it comes to you. As an example, I was trying to find an image of Elton John tonight, and there are at least 15 different terms that will take me to the Elton John entry - Sir Elton, Sir Elton John, John Elton, Elton H. John, Elton john album - see what I mean? Be creative. Then do the same thing for Derrick Offense - use his full name including middle name, "derrick alexander wr', 'derrick alexander chiefs', 'derrick alexander KC', and on and on.
- That's how it's done.
Thanks

Miko
I don't understand how I "vandalized" the miko page. The only thing I did was remove a few paragraphs, and that was because the paragraphs had already been stated. It looked like this example:
Kikyou is a character in the series Inuyasha. She is a miko. Kikyou is a character in the series Inuyasha. She is a miko.
All I did was remove the second part because it's ridiculous to have the exact same thing repeated twice. How is that vandalism?

I corrected a typo on the Model-View-Controller page and you reverted it and then left me a message admonishing me from "removing content." Way to keep mistakes in Wikipedia. Good job. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.80.54.151 (talk • contribs).
- Hello - thanks for the message. As my reply, take a look at this page, the edit history comparing my edit with yours. The edit on the left is how you left the page. The edit on the right is my restoration. You inadvertently cut off a good chunk of the entry.
- That said, don't feel bad, especially if you're using Firefox and the Google Toolbar. There's a bug somewhere (at Mozilla or Google, it's been reported to both) that occasionally cuts off a good portion of Wikipedia articles. That's why there's a caution at the top of the edit window, and that's why the message above says, "It might not have been your intention..." It seems to happen randomly and it even happened to me, after which I uninstalled the toolbar pending a fix.
- If you still have questions, feel free to leave another message. Please sign your talk page edits with four tildes, so others don't have to look back through an edit history to see who you are. Happy editing - Baseball,Baby! balls•strikes 01:04, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

I've reviewed the Wikipedia:Notability (people) page and under Alternative Tests it lists the professor test. This tests states, "If the individual is more well known and more published than an average college professor (based on the U.S. practice of calling all full-time academics professors), they can and should be included." Compared to other professors, he is involved in more research and articles than what I consider the average professor, and he held an endowed chair. The research facility he works with is often ranked in the top 20 in terms of grants for Chemical Engineering research. He has articles based on his area of expertise, a patent, awards for teaching and research, and is invited to speak at conferences dealing with his area of expertise. The last reason, lectuering at conferences, also shows he is, and I quote from Wikipedia:Notability (academics), "#2 The person is regarded as an important figure by those in the same field."
Also, under the same page, Wikipedia:Notability (academics), under "Caveats" it lists, "Note that as this is a guideline and not a rule, exceptions may well exist. Some academics may not meet any of these criteria, but may still be notable for their academic work. It is important to note that it is very difficult to make clear requirements in terms of numbers of publications or their quality: the criteria, in practice, vary greatly by field." I feel this applies to Douglas Harrison as most ChE research isn't blasted in the public eye like other areas and used more by the relatively private and quiet field of Chemical Engineering. Research knowledge is taken from journals, lectures, and consultations and applied to industrial problems by Chemical Engineers working in the field. There is no "off the shelf" product to purchase and he is in part responsible for making coal-fired power plants not billowing pollution facilities anymore.
He has served also as professor and a dissertational advisor to Ph.D. and M.S. students, which Tupsharru, in the Wikipedia_talk:Notability_(academics) said, "Being a doctoral dissertation advisor, a "Doktorvater" as the Germans call it, certainly puts the person in another league than somebody who just teaches undergraduates." He has worked with over 40 graduate students as advisor, which is a large number in a field where only 5000 undergradutes graduate a year and usually less than 1% goes on to any graduate work in Chemical Engineering.
Douglas Harrison has definately a notable chemical engineer. Reflux 03:00, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for the help. I wish I could go through the article tonight and possibly create it, but I don't have time today. I guess I can say my main motive for attempting to start that article is to expand the List of chemical engineers. I've already made a few edits to it before I had the account like removing Cindy Crawford. I plan on grabbing my Chemical Engineering magazines and Perry's Handbook, when time allows, to expand other articles related to ChE and find other people who have helped move this area of engineering forward. It's, in comparison to other fields, still relatively new. I also guess because I'm ChE I'm a bit in favor of adding them ;) Reflux 04:11, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Uncategorised lists
Hi, I saw you've been working on User:Bluemoose/Uncategorised lists. Thanks. Also, you don't need to mention that you finished a section. Just remove the entry or section you categorised. Much easier. Garion96 (talk) 19:36, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, the instructions are not really clear. Another thing (which also wasn't clear), you don't have to put every article in Category:Lists, but they all have to be in a subcategory of that category. Plus of course the other non lists categories. Garion96 (talk) 00:43, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Eluchil404's RfA
Thank you for taking the time to express an opinion in my recent request for adminship. I have withdrawn my self-nomination because there seemed little prospect for further productive discussion or the formation of a consensus to promote. Many commentators offered constructive critisism that I will use to improve myself as a user. Others suggested that the nomination was premature and that a re-nom in a few months would be more likely to gain consensus. I will strive to continuously improve as an editor and address the conerns you mentioned in your comment. Thanks. Eluchil404 20:36, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
My RfA
Thank you so much for voting in my recent RFA. It passed on the relatively narrow vote of 38/8/8. It was also one of the least-participated-in RFA nominations in several months, so pat yourself on the back, and join the party on your left, but first, take your cookie!

thank you for reverting the vandalism by Yavari Govain on the Richmond, California article. Its greatly appreacited since I've done a lot of hard work on it and its so easiy tarnished by repeatedly added factual innacuracies, nonsense, terrible grammer, and poorly formatted and untagged images. 71.142.71.145 01:18, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Help
Hey Baseball Baby, I'm having some trouble and I thought that maybe you'd be able to help me out. A couple weeks ago you helped me with copyright issues on a photo that was on the Mike Leonard page. I made another page on Brendan Leonard and both of the photos have a copyright issue....it says I need a better explanation of the fair use rational and I thought I summarized it okay? I don't know, I am just very confused and would appreciate your help! Thanks in advance.
