Krasnoarmeysk, Saratov Oblast

Krasnoarmeysk (Russian: Красноарме́йск) is a town in Saratov Oblast, Russia, located 75 km south of Saratov at . Population: 25,411 (2002 Census); 24,055 (1989 Census).
Founded in 1764–1766 as a colony Baltser (Бальцер) of German settlers. The other name of the colony was Goly Karamysh (Голый Карамыш), after the river on which it was located. In 1914 the settlement was officially renamed Goly Karamysh. It was granted town status in 1918 and renamed back to Baltser in 1927. In 1942, it was renamed Krasnoarmeysk during the cleansing of German geographic names.
