Kråkö

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kråkö is a small island located in the municipality of Borgå in Finland. There is a school for Swedish speakers on the island, and also a voluntary fire station. There used to be a few shops and a cafeteria, however these closed down in the late 1990s. There is a boat-building museum, reflecting the islanders main industry in past-times. The island's population was traditionally almost unilingually Swedish-speaking. However, of late an increase in migration, often for summer-houses, has resulted in an increase in the number of Finnish-speakers on the island. Kråkö is Swedish for "crow island".
